8 The Berries

Gnome ate the berries !

This is our Mahonia - a handsome species from China and Taiwan, and one of the most popular winter-flowering evergreen shrubs. They are closely related to the genus Berberis.
Grown for their ornamental evergreen foliage, yellow flowers in autumn, winter and early spring, and blue-black berries.
The berries are edible, and rich in vitamin C, though with a very sharp flavour.

The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
