O, Tannenbaum! O, Tannenbaum!
O, Tannenbaum! o, Tannenbaum! Oh, Fir Tree! Oh, Fir Tree? Wait a minute. Aren't we supposed to be singing Oh, Christmas Tree?
According to my translator, that should be "O, Weihnachtsbaum, o, Weihnachtsbaum!" But maybe I'm being too literal, formal. Hmmm...
This 3-1/2 foot mock 'fir tree' is what I call Christmas in my little corner of the world. All (but two tiny ones I recently purchased) of the ornaments are from my former students. Of course, over time, I received dozens of ornaments but I saved the small, special ones. Lots of little bears and snowmen. Some handmade and one says 'World's Greatest Teacher,' which of course, I was!
It's at this time of the year, especially the week before Christmas, that I miss teaching, and being around children the most. There's nothing in this world like seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child....
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
May you all have a blessed and happy Christmas!
