The accidental finding

The Edge of Heaven

Christmas eve is a busy time on Rodborough common. Runners run, dogs roam, and even the sun came out, which made a vast difference. I took this shot overlooking Stroud's western fringes: Cainscross, Ebley and Doverow hill in Stonhehouse. Through the Severn vale winds the river, and on a clear day such as today, you can almost see into the houses in the Forest of Dean.

The castle on the right is Rodborough Fort, which is owned and (I believe) occupied by Dale Vince, the renewable energy millionaire and owner of Ecotricity, a green energy company which now employs many people in Stroud. Dale is also a vegetarian, and the saviour of our local football team, Forest Green Rovers.

Meanwhile, at home, the fire is crackling in the grate, the tree lights are glowing, and I'm watching the end of Little Women (1994 version). I must have read that book so often that I almost know it by heart! Of course, I indentified with Jo, the tomboyish one. Who wouldn't?

Time now to get the rolls of paper, and start wrapping. My knee has been colonised by Bomble, so he will be forced to retire to his electrically heated bed! In the windows of the bungalows opposite, I can see the reflections of the setting sun.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, especially to those who are working, whether paid or unpaid.
