Along the Prom, Prom, Prom...
Merry Christmas from the People's Republic of Portobello!
There's nothing quite like sunshine on Christmas Day! Dr T and I are feeling a little better (many thanks for all your kind wishes) and have had a lovely, quiet, gentle day of pressies, a stroll along the prom and a meal of our favourite foods. Oh, and Strictly!
Before signing off I must tell you about last night's Community Carols and Watch Night Service. The first half hour is made up of Christmas songs like Rudolph and a mad version of Twelve Days of Christmas. Because it was such a big year for Scotland we had a MacQuiz with prizes like a macaroon, a Tunnocks Tea Cake and a can of Irn Bru (which I won).
The Watch Night Service was very moving. A choir of solely male voices sang Silent Night - the first verse in German, the second in English and the third with both languages - as a reflection of the Christmas Day Truce football game in 1914. As a former historian, I've found much of this year's commemoration of WWI problematic, but the choir had me in tears.
Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas.
