Taking the Christmas Plunge

 

Daughter H and s-i-l P joined us for a Christmas breakfast of scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Not time for opening pressies as fully fortified we were off to Bude Surf Life Saving Club’s annual Christmas swim. P a very keen surfer would be braving the surf while H, Gofer and I spectated, camera at the ready of course.

It was a beautiful sunny Christmas Morning a pleasant 9o but with a chill northerly wind and about ½ tide with a messy surf. so not a bad morning for a swim. Swimmers can dress up but are not allowed to wear a wet suit! It was a brilliant turn out I don’t think I’ve seen so many swimmers and spectators.

The swimmers congregated on the beach …. 10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1-  and they were off running through the shallow and into the surf.

Bude was the first SLSC to be formed in Britain in 1953 and this is the 35th Christmas swim.

 

H&P were off to friends for Christmas dinner, we will see them tomorrow. We strolled back over the cliffs to the car then home to put the small turkey on and enjoy a peaceful Christmas, the first time we’ve ever been on our own.
