Capturing the Everyday

Kayaking on the Waikanae River

It was a glorious afternoon and evening today, so we spent a few hours kayaking as far up the river Waikanae as we could manage until the current was impossible to overcome then we ambled down slowly with the current not paddling with our feet cooling us down in the water.
It seemed everybody was out on Boxing Day, cycling, horse riding, jogging, walking, swimming, paddling, kayaking just having fun and soaking up the beauty of holidays, and beautiful surroundings. I included this photo because it’s taken from the kayak and captures the day.
Late afternoon we took the kayak into the sea for only my second attempt at sea-kayak fishing. On the first attempt with Matt (my youngest son) we caught a nice sized John Dory, and today after about an hour fishing George (my nephew) caught a nice sized Red Cod! We headed back and had the cod for tea.
Later the perfect day was capped off with a trip to the delightful Shoreline  Cinema to see the Hobbit.

It’s a Wonderful Life!
