The Yule Cat

My daughter was asked to dance the role of The Yule Cat in Hafnarfjordur town today. The Yule Cat is a monster from Icelandic folklore, a huge and vicious cat said to lurk about the snowy countryside during Christmastime and eat people who have not received any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve.  The play was held outside in a public garden and about 250 people attended. The story of the Icelandic Yule Lads was told to the children as the whole group walked through the garden. At chosen places they met the characters of the story and one of them was The Terrible Yule Cat. My daughter improvised her dance and did a great job scaring the kids!  Here you can hear the song about The Yule Cat sung by Bjork.
