Words
Our borrowed bilingual 6-year-old got some fridge magnets for Christmas: ‘the 45 words which every child is expected to recognise by the end of the Reception school year’ (sic).
After being the Christmas Elf and reading the labels on all the parcels under the tree, he had, understandably, had enough of reading so the adults moved the tea mugs off the metal tray and set to making a story that used all the words. Over the afternoon sentences got added, words got juggled and gradually a story emerged. The shortage of nouns meant that it ended up, well, slightly adult:
am (this is supposed to mean ‘morning’)
my dad is in
are you going to look like a big dog all of the day said mum
at this he went no we can play cat come and see me
yes she was up for it
I get away they go on
If you have any improvements or alternatives, please let us know.
And, hooray!, we got out for a walk before the sun went down.
