21/12/2014: The Burning of the Clocks

This is a wonderful pagan celebration, where Brighton marks the shortest day by parading lanterns like this through the city before piling them up into a huge bonfire on the beach, followed by a firework display watched by thousands.  It always raises a lump in my throat, and for me, bears far more significance than the consumerist frenzy known as Christmas a few days later. All downhill now till summer now!
