Derwentwater

The Weather is pretty wet and the lakes are pretty full as you can see This mono treatment inspired by the excellent exhibition of mainly mono landscapes by JohnGravett at the theatre by the lake in Keswick.  We left a comment in the book, but like the new blip couldn't work out how to give 5 stars :-)

We walked along the 5 minute flat walk to Friar's crag and were pretty glad we had not gone up high today as the wind was so strong there were white horses on the lake and waves breaking onto the the shore of the lake.

Walking along there (in our walking grear) I was reminded of a story we were told on our holiday in the Queras by Jim who lives near Keswick. He was in Booths at the checkout and an older guy was in front with all his walking gear on. They guy on the checkout said - "You tourists - All the gear and no idea - I bet you don't get further than Friar's Crag". They guy in front was local Caldbeck resident Sir Chris Bonnington. Who said nothing but then presented his payment card to pay.  The guy on the till was still non the wiser he had just met Britain's most famous mountaineer.
