Smith Faces Ashwin at the MCG (2014.360)

A brilliant day out at the Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. A true theatre of sport, 'The G' is an amazing place, used for both AFL ("Aussie Rules Football") and cricket. The Boxing Day Test is a Melburnian institution. I was one of 70,000 attendees.

In this shot, Australia's captain Steve Smith faces a delivery from Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. It was safely negotiated as Smith saw his way to stumps on the first day. Australia scored well, but the scoreline flatters India, who were lacklustre in the field.

But a great first day at a Test Match for me. Beautiful weather, incredible atmosphere.

This will probably be my entry for the WBC challenge on the theme of "ball".
