Waiting for Godot
We went to see the very well made film about Stephen Hawking. As we whiled away a little time waiting for the movie, we popped into an up-scale department store and played among the obscenely expensive clothes, imitating the poses of the mannequins, fingering the cashmere sweaters made in China, holding up to each other dresses with $2000 price tags. The world is mad.
From Eduardo Galeano's The Book of Embraces :
The system:
It steals with one hand what it lends with the other.
Its victims:
The more they pay, the more they owe.
The more they get, the less they have.
The more they sell, the less they earn.
