The road to Imber
Imber Village was evacuated in November 1943 so that American troops could train for the D-Day landings. The village was never returned to its former occupants.
The village is normally closed to the public as it forms part of the MoD's firing ranges (although the village church is strictly out of bounds to the soldiers on military training exercises), but is open to visitors several times a year. This is the road we used to get to Imber today.
It's a strange place - I've never before seen a sign in a portaloo that asks users to refrain from using it to dispose of live ordnance!
I was tempted to post this instead, but it didn't seem to fit in with this being the season of goodwill ...
