East St Helen Street
Had to dash from college to town to pick up something from the sorting office. At around 5.30 the light was really rather nice. I'm not normally in town so late in the afternoon.
This is taken from the end of one of the oldest and most beautiful streets in Abingdon: East St Helen Street is just chock a block full of 15th century listed buildings.
The magnificent County Hall built in 1684 has featured in several previous blips but not from this angle. I purposely took the shot at roof height as the bottom of the building is still cloaked in metal fencing due to ongoing refurbishments. If you have time take a look at its detail in large.
To the right of county hall is St Nicolas Church, built in the 12th Century as part of the gateway to Abingdon Abbey (the tower was added in the 15th Century).
The pub with the tall chimney is the early 17th century Punch Bowl - a favourite haunt (I've previously blipped the inside of this pub here).
Hope you've enjoyed this mini tour of the oldest town in Britain!
