My blue heaven
KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA
Inspired by fellow blippers flower photos I searched our garden.
Well, the Himalayan poppies, or meconopsis, are just coming into bloom.
They were bought as small plants some years ago from Dr Evelyn Stevens, an international authority who happens to live up on Sheriffmuir in a very isolated location, not that far away.
She has about an acre of poppies; well maybe half an acre, all I know is that there were an awful lot of poppies everywhere you looked.
Before we made our purchase s we were grilled to make certain we understood their special needs. (In fact M. thought she might refuse to sell them to us unless we showed a passionate interest in their welfare and we wondered if she might come along and check on their growth).
Anyway, this remarkable woman formed the Meconoposis study group in 1998 to promote interest and knowledge of this species, which was first, introduced into western gardens from the Far East more than a century ago.
Today it has more than 150 members worldwide.
