As the sun came up
An early start in search of snow and red squirrels!
A cold, frosty winter's day, and Mr M drove us to the south-west. First stop was the little parking area between St Mary's Loch and the Loch of the Lowes - absolutely stunning scenery, providing numerous blip opportunities (making it one of those rare very-difficult-to-choose days!). As we admired the view, the sun burst over the hills beyond the Loch of the Lowes.
Next stop, a little further on, was the Grey Mare's Tail - an impressive waterfall. (Though we spent much more time looking at the wild goats on the hillside than the waterfall!)
We did see some proper snow on the higher hills in the distance (Broad Law and the surrounding hills), and passed through a scattering on the way to Kielder. It was a fabulous drive and worth it for the views, though we didn't spot any red squirrels when we got there.
Back home via Rothbury after a lovely day out.
