Tom Weir (1914-2006)

Today a statue was unveiled on the anniversary of his 100th birthday to honour Tom, who was a walker, climber, broadcaster, and a lot of other things, and who encouraged many people to take to the hills and wild places of Scotland.

The HG and I, along with many others, went along to see the unveiling and to honour the man.  We met up with many friends, old and not so old, and it was a lovely day.  The weather was not so lovely, as we left our town in brilliant sunshine and found freezing fog at Balmaha.

Tom's favourite 'drink' was Scotch Broth but without barley, and we were all treated to some.

His wife Rhona, who is now 94 years old, was there, and the unveiling was done by Cameron McNeish and Jimmy McGregor, who are in my picture with Rhona.
