The Glory of the Brocken spectre
I climbed as high as I could. The ground was iced and at times I was bent against the buffeting winds. The clouds lay heavy in the valley, too cold to break free from the lowland. The sun at a low angle, just perfect.
And there at the summit, a glory.
The holy grail of the cloudhunter. The circular rainbow is known as a glory, the elongated shadow is mine, projected on the screen of the low cloud, and the whole effect is a Brocken spectre.
This one perfect but short lived. A single frame with numb fingers. I had no idea what I had captured however hard I squinted at the small screen on the back of the camera. Such joy.
