Drove over to Oxford today. A bright blue, frosty kind of day. Brothers for scoff in the Covered Market (as per usual), and then on a whim, we decided to take a closer look at the castle-cum-prison.

Viewing the castle was by guided tour only. That is, by a guide employed to wear fancy dress and trot out the same gags trip after trip. There were no kids in our party and nobody was laughing. Only the guide was grinning. To be fair our guide knew his castle inside out, fleshed things out with some interesting detail and generally held our interest. However, that interest dissolved inside a cell on being invited to line up for prison-style mugshots; like they would have you do on Alcatraz. So we dodged the guards and escaped, so to speak, back into civvy street.

After that we wandered through the lanes between the colleges and visited nice teashops. Liked it.
