Mallards on the Tombolo
Bright, cold and sunny today!
The tides have been really high lately so we took a walk at the late morning high to see the tombolo at the end of the bay. I do like that (Italian) word…it means “mound” - and is a “deposition landform by which an island is attached to the mainland by a narrow piece of land such as a spit or bar, a type of isthmus. “Little Parker Island” is attached to “Parker Island” this way (see map if you are interested.) In the summer it’s kind of marshy but one can walk across it. I think now altho not totally covered with water, one couldn’t walk across without high boots. We were told it might totally go under water at one of the high King tides combined with storms this month. but I wasn't here to look....
The light was marvelous —low sun and long shadows before noon and wonderful reflections. Lots of mallards were enjoying the expanded “pond” but I especially liked the light and water patterns…
Lovely day …the sky is pink as I write at 4:30. Top priority project- a Blurb book (Alaska Wildlife) that I finally have time to work on —with a good discount coupon til Dec 31, I have 2 days to finish it. It will happen......
