On The Waterfront
It has been a wonderful day, filled with memories from my uni days in the late '70s.
In chilly, but bright sunshine, we drove under the Mersey and up to Edge Lane and the site of what used to be my hall of residence, University Hall. It is now the Devonshire Hotel, and they very kindly allowed us to wander round the grounds and even opened up some of the closed areas of the hotel for us. Like the old dining room, which is now a conference room, the bar and TV rooms downstairs, and the Warden's residence, which is now hotel bedrooms.
Then we took a brief look at the Electrical and Electronic Engineering building opposite the catholic cathedral, where I spent so many hours poring over a hot soldering iron, before returning across the river.
Back into the centre of Liverpool by train, a mooch around the very smart shopping areas, and finally returning to Birkenhead by world famous ferry.
To finish the day off, we all went to a local Indian with nephew Paul and wife Claire to stuff ourselves at the buffet.
I shall welcome a fast day when I return to Spain!
