Odd-Shaped Balls! #Rugby
It was a very cold morning and after breakfast I decided to venture into Rugby town centre to see the famous school and the statue of the man who invented the game with odd-shaped balls.
I almost didn't make it after spinning the car on a mini-roundabout on an un-gritted road. Fortunately my new winter tyres kept me on the road with no damage done - but the tyre marks across the pavement and into the field beyond the roundabout indicated that other drivers had not been so lucky.
It's the first time that I have been in Rugby town centre - apart from the famous school it seemed quite ordinary with the usual M&S, WHS, Greggs and Cash Converters!
Rugby School is however quite impressive. The statue outside the school is that of William Webb Ellis who, according to the story, caught the ball while playing a game of football at school, and ran to the goal with it. Webb Ellis is credited as the sport's inventor and the winner of the Rugby Union World Cup, held every four years, receives the Webb Ellis Cup.
Of course Rugby Union is not proper rugby is it?
Safely back home in God's own county now!
