Hogmanay

These are my peas being "steeped" for tomorrow. 

I'm thinking boiled peas at New Year is a distinctly Scottish thing indeed I'm almost sure of it. 

Dry peas are soaked (steeped) in cold water overnight then boiled. They end up a gooey sticky mess like nothing you have ever seen or tasted - not "mushy" just mental. Salt and vinegar is added and they can be served with the traditional steak pie or the equally traditional Scotch Pie!

There, all explained! :) My granny would be proud of me!
