How the mighty fall

Such a beautiful day.  A short drive out for a walk through the grounds of Turvey Abbey, until 1980 a privately owned house and not an abbey at all.  Since then it has been a retreat run by the Benedictine Order of Nuns. 

There are many fine trees in the park but I'm not sure what happened to this tree, whether it was struck by lightning or collapsed under its own weight.  A bit like I'm feeling post Christmas.

Meeting up with the friends we walked with this morning for an evening of jollity and yet more food.  I can see the carcass of a pigeon on the grassy knoll at the front, no doubt consumed by a now well fed sparrowhawk.
