Rising moon, Gartcosh Nature Reserve
Picked up a leaflet for Gartcosh Nature Reserve on a visit to Drumpellier Park in Coatbridge earlier in 2014 and made a mental note to visit it at some point during the year. Finally, on the second-last day of 2014, I made it.
On first appearances, it's not the most attractive or interesting of nature reserves but, according to the above leaflet "Gartcosh Nature Reserve was established to protect the biggest colony of great crested newts in Scotland. The reserve is also home to palmate and smooth newts, frogs, toads and a whole host of other pondlife including a variety of dragonflies and damselflies." So now you know!
On my afternoon walk I did see a roe deer being chased by two dogs, but forgot to check for great crested newts. Took a few photos of the paths and the trees, a few more of the setting sun pictured through the trees, but settled on this one of the rising moon.
