January 1st

A happy New Year to one and all. We took a stroll down our usual pathways around Maldon Prom, things look quite different in the dark. Having looked back at the year now gone we now look forward to ...... well, we're not quite sure. But it'll involve family & faith.

Today is remembered for many things, not least .......
45 BC – The Julian calendar makes January 1 as the new date of the new year
1772 – The first traveller's cheques go on sale in London
1788 – First edition of The Times is published
1801 – The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland is established
1912 – The Republic of China is established
1985 – The first British mobile phone call is made

... and it's my niece, Ellen's, 17th birthday. She has longed to say;
.... Dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen ......
And now she can say it, and sing it too.
