Start As You Mean To Go On

Had a perfect start to the New Year with many friends from the Dublin Meath Farmers Hunt today across the ditches and rivers in County Meath. It's a drag hunt so no foxes are chased. Instead the pack of hounds follow a scent left by a lead group. There were plenty of fallers including my good friend Roland who came off three times!! He is a good rider but sometimes you can do nothing to prevent a fall. After his first fall he was still fist to the aid of one of the ladies who was thrown in the river and had her nose broken when the horse's hoof hit her in the face. Thank God for helmets.
All horses and riders made it safely home though there were lots of riders soaked from head to toe after swimming the rivers though that didn't stop them popping in for a drink after their horses were tended too. All in all a splendid start to 2015....just saying
