PIPES & DRUMS
Many hundreds of years ago, an extensive labyrinth of tunnels was discovered beneath the city of Edinburgh. A story is told that a lone piper volunteered to explore the mysterious underground passages. He played his bagpipes as he slowly walked along the dark tunnels, so that people above ground could map out his progress. All was fine untill suddenly, the sound of music from the lone piper stopped.
A search party was sent down to retrace the pipers path but he had vanished without trace.
To this day, the only sign of the lone piper's existence is the sound of him playing his pipes as he walks endlessly beneath Edinburgh castle.
This story can be found in many a place, I used to live in Richmond as a lad and the tale told of a young Drummer Boy who was sent from the Castle to find an escape route through the tunnels underneith the keep, he played his drum and the people followed, on reaching a carved stone on the outskirts of the town the drumming stopped and the lad was never seen again. The School sports ground was situated a few yards from what was known as the drummer stone and each time we passed it on the way to play football we would stop to listen for thr rat-a-tat-tat of this poor lost soul.
None of this relates to todays Blip, I was messing about and ended up with what you see, obviously to much time on my hands!
