Duddingston Kirk

In one of Edinburgh's oldest villages Duddingston Kirk is well known. It sits in the shadow of Arthur's Seat next to Duddingston Loch. One of it's previous ministers was Rev John Thomson and he would open his sermons with the words " Noo, my bairns"
and so the popular old saying 'We're aw Jock Tamson's bairns' meaning that we are all God's children was used here in the south of Scotland.
At the Kirk gate hangs The Jougs. This is an iron collar which was fastened around the neck of the miscreant and used as a punishment in the Parish.
There is a famous painting, by Sir Henry Raeburn, - The Reverend Robert Walker skating on Duddingston Loch.
