Breaking Bread

M and N are Iraqi refugees who fled Baghdad in fear for their family's safety. He's an engineer, she's a translator. They lived in various refugee camps in Belgium for several years before finally being granted permission to stay. We met through a friend who helps out at the local refugee centre. M and N and their young sons recently moved to their first apartment, furnished entirely by donations from friends and strangers. They were overwhelmed by people's kindness to them and wanted to thank everyone by inviting them to a wonderful Iraqi tea which N prepared from scratch. It was a lovely afternoon.
