Tied up in Knots

All round the base of Arnside Knott the paths take you through woodland. Mainly Birch, Hazel and Yew.

Today's blip shows a typical scene at the side of the paths. An entanglement of roots with plenty of moss. I assume that in the early life of the tree the roots were all underground but that erosion of the thin soil has left them exposed.
