Flying the Flag

There was a measure of pride in seeing the flag
of St George flying atop the Church tower in the
midday sun. The Church has been the parish
church of Scarborough since it was built 1150
some 20 years after the Castle and it is believed
by the same masons. St George had been a
popular Saint long before that and celebrated by
many countries, races, religions and organisations.
He was adopted as the Patron Saint of England
in 1415 the year that English soldiers won the
battle of Agincourt. In view of the turbulent history
of this area it is hoped that the flag will provoke no
unrest today in either locals or visitors to the Town!
