Acheninver Burn

Today I finally ventured out first footing and enjoyed the walk up the burn and past the youth hostel. Unfortunately this may be it's last year. It's been a hostel since the thirties when my aunt wrote to the SYHA to suggest they leased it from the then Cromartie Estate; our neighbouring relations who lived there lost a son in the Great War and their daughter had moved away so when they died there it became vacant. Hosteling was the big thing then and it has accommodated many bright young (and not so young) things who ventured to the north west and were happy with a bed for the night despite the basic facilities.

The hunt is on for someone else to run it and continue the tradition with a few modern touches (it now has running water AND electricity).
