Horsetooth Reservoir
Took an afternoon trip up to the reservoir to check out the water level. Last year at this time the level was very low. Scary for Fort Collin's area residents as this is the primary source of water for entire year (actually, this is the collection of melted water from the mountain snow to our west). After a slow start, late last winter we were fortunate to receive an above average snowfall. So, I was curious to see what the effect of a summer of unrestricted water usage would bring. As can be seen from the image, water is near capacity. And, with snowfall currently at or above averages, things bode well for next summer. However, the reservoir cannot continue to support the kind of growth Fort Collins has been seeing over the past few years.
