Paddling in Port Levy

Port Levy is a long, sheltered bay and settlement on Banks Peninsula in Canterbury, New Zealand.

The current population is under 100, but in the mid-19th century it was the largest Māori settlement in Canterbury with a population of about 400 people
Paddling in Port Levy, stopping just short of the Heads, was great, in near-perfect weather, with just enough breeze to make the sea conditions interesting. We had lunch at a tiny bay that friends and I have named Sid's Beach, in honour of a North Island paddler, and also had a lovely swim, before setting off for Browns Island and back to the wharf.  In the distance is Adderley Head and behind that, Godley Heads, the cliffs that mark the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour.
