Lions, Tigers, and Dragons? Oh my....
Yesterday was my wife's birthday. Both of us love animals from near and far, so what better way to celebrate 31 years on this earth than to visit the Calgary Zoo?
Over the past while, the Calgary Zoo has been redoing several of it's exhibits; relocating some animals to new homes, and bringing in others. One place where major changes have occurred is in what used to be the elephant exhibit. The elephants are now gone to a place where they have more room and more ability to be the wonderfully social creatures that they are. In their place has come five new residents to occupy their old building. A rhino, a turtle, and four Komodo Dragons.
Three of the dragons are young, babies yet. The other is an adult female. The Komodo Dragons are, by far, my wife's favourite creatures to see at the Calgary Zoo, so in honour of her birthday I give you the front left foot of the adult female. This picture was taken while she rested under a heat lamp in her exhibit; absorbing the heat on a cold, Canadian winter's day.
