Night time photography - FAIL

Tonight I was going to take some nice long exposures over the M9 motorway and see how they came out. Didn't quite go to plan. Firstly no ambient light whatsoever where I was so I couldn't set the right exposure. Autofocus went nuts at me too. So gave up and pointed the camera at the car and took that instead.

I honestly took that photo at 9pm at night in the pitch black...but from that photo it looks like its dusk or something!

Will have to go out experimenting again.
