Journey Through Time

Chuck's Produce

I took Auntie to Chuck's Produce today.  This is a store that is headquartered right here in Vancouver and they have two fairly new stores.  They started out just selling produce, and to be honest, I'd never heard of them before these stores opened up.  They do have a huge produce section and it was a lot of fun to look around.  The meat guy told us that these cars are from the owner's collection and that they have a warehouse, somewhere, that is full of old classic cars.  The produce business has been good to them, apparently.  They are Seventh Day Adventist, and the store is closed on Saturdays, and they don't sell pork or shellfish, but they do sell fish and bowed to non Adventist shoppers and carry only the best meat.  All of their meat in the meat market is Painted Hills beef, from Fossil, Oregon.  I got some hamburger to try out.  We don't eat a lot of beef, but I guess this is good stuff.  They have a beautiful bakery and I got three little cupcakes to try as I've also heard that they have the best cakes.   And they have the deli, and one can get a pizza slice or a full on 4 course lunch and everything in between.  I had a hot veggie sandwich and Joan had a hamburger.  The side dish I chose was tater tots, and they gave each of us so much that we will have them with dinner tonight.  I bought 3 different flavors of stuffed chicken breast to cook for us.  We got a lot of entertainment out of that little shopping excursion.

And they have fun things in their produce section, like many high end stores like Whole Foods.  I got a Sweet Lime, and something called White Sapote, a citrus type fruit that you eat, skin and all.  It's native to parts of Mexico and down to Costa Rica.

Then a mundane trip to the local large neighborhood grocery to get the things the other store doesn't carry.  Now we are tired.

Later, dudes.
