End of an era.
Roy and I have joined another golf club. We have been members of Las Ramblas for 14 years, and it was sad to depart, the deciding factor on us leaving was the increase in the annual green fee, which for the two of us was nearly 3000 euros, plus 2 euros each every time we played.
We where not the only ones to leave the club, 12 people made the same decision as us and we all left for the same reason. The Spanish seem to think that as ex pats we have a limitless supply of cash and can afford these exhorbitant fees. We have voted with our feet, and the golf club will lose approximately 20,000 euros. It is a shame, but we have to make a stand.
It was Las Ramblas AGM today, and although we bade farewell to the golf course, we are still social members of the Las Ramblas Golf and Social Club, we will attend the monthly lunches, and probably will play as guests in one or two of the major competitions.
The new club we have moved to is a 30 minute drive away, and they have been very accommodating, we have joined a new society and have played some games with them. It is a challenging course, but in a very different way to Ramblas, this course has water hazards on 16 of the 18 holes, so different tactics are needed in order to play and not lose too many balls.
So we are now back to getting up at 7.00am on a Wednesday, Friday AND Sunday to play our golf, I walk the course, and using my Fitbit to log my steps I find I am walking on average 12 kilometres per round, which must be a good thing. At the moment Roy is sharing a buggy, but he hopes to start using my Hill Billy trolley in the not too distant future.
