102 years ago today…

…my Dad was born in Redhill, Surrey. His mother died of influenza during the great flu epidemic at the end of WWI  when  Dad was 5 years of age and as further education was out of the question because of the cost he left school at the age of 12. His father was chauffeur to Lord and Lady Ilchester of Holland House in London's West End and after serving an  apprenticeship as a coach builder to HJMulliner & Co my father saw posters at New Zealand House in London that prompted him to emigrate to this "land of milk and honey".Jake and Zach are  two of his great grandsons who , because of Dad's decision, have inherited the freedoms and joys of growing up in this beautiful country and all the privileges of education and choice that it offers. What riches he left them when he died just before his 90th birthday.
