Walking the walls

First full day in Dubrovnik and we got up reasonably early to walk the city walls before the cruise ships crowds descended. Good thing we took the guide book advice as we got about halfway round before it became very congested.
The views of the old city from above are stunning, with the roofs forming a impossibly complicated puzzle of orange tiles with very narrow streets between. The evidence of the more recent war in Croatia is clear from the newer, lighter coloured tiles that were used to repair the extensive damage. It's not until you come to Dubrovnik that you can really appreciate just how close together and tight the whole city is, and how incredible that it was not completely destroyed.

Once we had completed our circuit we sneaked through a door in the walls to reach one of the bars perched on the cliffside, then had a delicious Bosnian meal in the evening. The weather perked up a bit today as well!
