Joyous Friday
Goodness knows what time I went to sleep this morning; between the horrid noisy wind chucking stuff about on the patio and G snoring his poor cold-filled head off.
Was taking Mum for a GP appt. this morning, picked her up at 10.30 for 11.00am. Afterwards we went to Blend café in Perth, just down the road from my brother Tom's flat. He joined us, and we had coffee and scones, and a bit of chat. I went to the loo, and while in there a hellish cacophony broke out. Immediately, I realised Mum was playing the piano which is situated in the café for decorative purposes. Panic!! (why panic??? I'll tell you why - the café was mobbed, and Mum cannot play the piano!). Got my knickers whipped up in double-quick time, and exited the loo breezily, calling "Come on Mrs Mills, your time's up"!
Crikey! What happens to them when they hit their 80's? They just don't care any more! Mum used to be shy when she was younger, and now she doesn't give a toss - if she wants to do something she just does it.
Hoorah! Hope I'll be like that too.
The lovely young staff hadn't even noticed, as they were all in a little huddle having a laugh about something. I think the poor man who had been seated nearest to the piano while doing something on his i-Pad was very grateful for the break in transmission though!
After coffee, Mum and I headed off to do a bit of shopping, but she didn't really need anything, just wanted a bit of a day out, so we headed up the A9 a short distance to the Bankfoot Visitors Centre, where we had a nice slow potter, bought lots of little bits and pieces in the sale, then had a lovely lunch which G had given me the money for earlier.
We took the little back country roads home, through lots of water and branches down everywhere. Mum had a lovely time, and said it had been like being on holiday.
After I left her, I nipped in to see my other brother, Pete, and he showed me some of his latest metal-detecting finds. Pretty fascinating stuff really - no great hoards of Viking treasure, but lots of little bits of real people's lives, and you wonder what the back stories were.
Finally, nipped into Tesco, and used some birthday money to buy a new phone - with a camera. I'm probably the last person on the planet still using a trusty old Nokia 3310, which works just as well now as it did when I got it. No camera, no nothing, just a phone. However, my handbag weighs a ton, especially since I now lug my digital camera everywhere I go because of Blip. So, I've joined the 21st century, a bit, and got a phone that I can take pictures on.
Let's see how that works out!
