By the river

I dropped my daughter off at Explorer Scouts this evening and had to pop in to pay her subs. It's the first time that I've been there (husband normally drops her off) and the conversation went as follows....

LEADER - What's you daughter's name?
ME- Bethan
Leader write down Bethany
ME - There's no Y.
LEADER - OK is it IE?
ME - No her name is Bethan and she hates being called Bethany.
LEADER - I guess that's why she never talks to me then.

I've lost count of how many times I've had that conversation over the years :-)
