The day after the night before......
Well, it was quite a storm, with wind speeds in excess of 100mph, and plenty of damage right through the islands. I think it was almost as bad as the storm we had 10 years ago, in which five members of the same South Uist family tragically lost their lives. The electricity power supply cut off at somewhere between 12.30 and 1am, and there followed our storm with an increasing velocity and volume.
The next day dawned much brighter, although still windy. Some minor damage to structures on my croft, but nothing major. Still no electricity, so I walked down through the village of Fivepenny to the shore at Eoropie, chatting with a couple of folk along the way and comparing "storm notes". Rather bizarrely, as none of us had any means of communication due to the power cut and absence of mobile phone signals, people off island probably knew far more about what had happened in the Hebrides and beyond as a whole than we did - other than in our own little locality.
This photo was taken just after a huge wave had crashed over the cliffs. Spent a cold rest of the day huddled in front of a peat fire trying to keep warm. The power was back on again this morning, so some semblance of normality has been restored for us in Ness at least, although I gather other areas have not been so fortunate.
