Uluru
Australia 2013 Backblip #8
Up, breakfast and a taxi to the airport via a tunnel under most of the center of Sydney. Our flight was on a pretty painted aeroplane and we took off at 9.45am for a three hour flight to Ayers Rock Airport. In a bonus, we actually flew out over the Blue Mountains and were able to spot our hotel from yesterday. We also flew over lots of geology and were able to see Uluru as we came in to land.
Our room had been upgraded, and we had a view of Uluru itself, albeit with a tree in the way. There was a card in the room for "Mr and Mrs Nuttin Congratulations on your recent wedding"!
We travelled out by coach at 5.30pm for our sunset Uluru viewing. We lined up in the coach viewing area and were provided with nibbles and drinks. We left one camera on a tripod taking photos automatically so we were able to produce a time lapse of the colour changes.
After dark, we headed on to the Cultural Center where we had a BBQ under the stars and got to know some of the other people on our tour. We had lots of meat including Kangaroo (tastes a bit like beef) and garlic prawns (well Sharon had some). We then had a short star talk in the car park, from which we could see the Milky Way and we were told three different ways to find south via the stars. Then it was back to the hotel for an early night before our 5.15am pick up to see sunrise at Uluru.
