Why did the snail cross the cycle path?

I've seen this snail many times before.
Crossing the cycle path as I ride to work. Same place, same time.

Today I stopped for a photo, my lycra clad arse sticking in the air until I was interupted by a dog walking neighbour running up to me thinking i'd fallen off my bike.
