Anything for a Quiet Life

Interesting finds!

We've found some interesting objects while packing up our parents' house which have sparked some memory or other.

This pair of lamps brings back childhood memories of the 'winter of discontent' when we'd come home from school, be sat down by the coal fire and given glasses of hot milk to drink before the power went off.  If I remember correctly, it was never off at the same time every night, but alternated so at least some people could come in from work and cook a hot meal.  Anyhow, mum used to get the parafin lamps out along with numerous candles to light the room to let us get on with any reading homework we had before bed.

I know it wasn't the best time for many people but as a child, it was an adventure.
