Sunrise at the locks

As the Mister observed, the main reason that my sunset and sunrise photos don't thrill me is almost certainly because I rarely take any. Indeed, I think I've only managed one sunrise in 6 months, which is a bit pathetic really. Sunsets have been a bit better, largely due to coinciding with the end of whatever the after-school activity is on any given day.

Today I got up early to meet Chris by the Caen Hill Locks. There was very little cloud, hence a sunrise that quietly slipped into daylight rather than any blaze of colour. I entertained myself with practising manual mode and playing around with the HDR setting. This shot was taken as the sun shone onto one of the holding basins adjacent to the flight of locks. It's in hdr and the only processing was pulling back the highlights on the water surface slightly. I love the colours in this one, it reminds me of my 70s childhood. Is it just nostalgia, or was the light really different then?
