St Mary's church, Tyneham, Dorset

A 13th century church partially rebuilt in the 19th century.  This view is of the west nave and northern transept

A service of remembrance is held in this church every year.

Tyneham is a civil parish, but since 1943 has had no parishioners.

Coincidentally, a member of Tyneham's Bond family was rector of Imber (located on Salisbury Plain, now a "ghost village" like Tyneham) in the mid 18th century.

"Comrades"

This 1986 film about the Tolpuddle Martyrs used Tyneham to recreate the village of Tolpuddle.

During the filming, the church was given a large fibreglass tower, located over the west door seen in this photo.  In addition, a number of fibreglass cottage fronts were erected nearby.  (Amazingly realistic, you could not tell the difference even from a few feet away.  And the sight of leaves sewn onto the trees provided a somewhat surreal effect.)
