Liberté, égalité, fraternité

A hand-made sign at the march in Montpellier in memory of those who died in Paris this week. A massive crowd which filled the whole centre of the city, far exceeding expectations. It was heartwarming to sense the solidarity, and the support for republican values which were, in origin, revolutionary. I hope the participants continue to demonstrate, against the government when necessary, and that those three values extend to assuring real equality for people from the banlieus - an urgent but much more complex task than opposing the murder of cartoonists.

We are touched here by this drama - M has met one of the journalists who is critically ill, and my friend Ray hosted two of the cartoonists who died at his place in my village.  There's much I could say, but I'm not sure this is the place or time.
